Lab-grown diamonds explained
Lab-grown diamonds are real diamonds created in controlled environments that recreate the conditions under which diamonds form in nature. They share the same crystal structure, brilliance, and durability as mined diamonds, with a more transparent and modern origin story.
Independent laboratories grade these diamonds using the same 4C framework as mined stones, so you can compare options clearly and choose the balance of look, value, and responsibility that feels right for you.
How lab-grown diamonds are created
There are two primary technologies used to grow diamonds:
- HPHT (High Pressure High Temperature) starts with a small diamond seed and exposes it to intense pressure and heat, encouraging carbon atoms to bond around the seed.
- CVD (Chemical Vapour Deposition) places a diamond seed in a chamber filled with carbon-rich gas, which is energised so carbon atoms settle and grow layer by layer.
Both methods result in a diamond with the same fundamental composition as a mined stone: pure carbon in a crystalline structure. The stone is then cut and polished by skilled craftspeople in the same way as any fine diamond.

Lab-grown vs mined diamonds
What stays the same
- Identical sparkle, fire, and scintillation to mined diamonds.
- Graded by the same independent laboratories using the 4Cs.
- Durable enough for everyday wear and heirloom pieces.
What feels different
- A transparent, modern origin with no traditional mining step.
- Often fewer inclusions thanks to tightly controlled growing conditions.
- Typically more accessible pricing, allowing you to choose a larger size or finer details within the same budget.
Choosing the right lab-grown diamond for you
When you are browsing grown diamond jewellery, focus on how the piece will be worn and what matters most to you:
- For everyday rings or bracelets, prioritise a well-balanced cut and secure setting that can handle regular wear.
- For statement pieces, consider bolder shapes and higher carat weights that make the design feel architectural and modern.
- If you love subtle sparkle, a refined pavé or fine-line design can feel lighter on the hand while still catching the light beautifully.
Every Jinora piece is designed to balance beauty, comfort, and longevity so you can wear your jewellery with ease every day.
